Description

Adoption isn't just for children. In the animal kingdom, cuckoo birds find foster parents to raise their young. Mama Cuckoo lays an egg in a nest where Mama Warbler has laid three eggs. Mama and Papa Warbler accept the cuckoo egg as their own. Gone Cuckoo is a compelling story of the loving, powerful relationship between parent and youngster. After much misadventure Mama and Papa Cuckoo realize the beauty of their adopted nestling is to let the bird be the bird he was born to be...a cuckoo. Award winning author, Nancy Kelly Allen, captures the hearts of adults and children in a book that's a perfect fit for family and classrooms.

Author Biography:

Nancy Kelly Allen's route to award-winning writing has more twists and turns than a winding mountain road. She worked as a social worker and elementary school teacher. When Nancy changed career paths once again and became a school librarian, the route led her straight to the world of children's books. Nancy spent her days reading to children and her nights writing for them. Eventually, writing led her down the trail to publication. Nancy's home is in Kentucky where storytelling is a way of life. Her father entertained the family with humorous stories, and her mother encouraged her young daughter to tell stories. The early influence of her father's storytelling and her mother's literary interpretations set Nancy on the road to creating worlds through books. She considers her love of writing a gift of the spirit from her parents. She has written over forty children's books and has a master's degree in Education from Morehead State University and a master's in Library and Information Science from the University of Kentucky. Nancy and her husband, Larry, live in the log cabin in which she grew up and they share their home with two canine writer assistants, Jazi and Roxi. Louise Schroeder grew up in a large family on a farm near Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada. Throughout her 20's she worked as an orthopedic nurse and during that time she avoided the long cold winters by traveling to warmer climes throughout the world. Her travels brought unforgettable adventures and inspired her to share these experiences through her art. With no formal training, she learned her trade through books and countless hours of practice. Louise has shown her work in numerous art shows in Canada and the United States; created stage designs, murals, posters, and illustrated a textbook for Saskatchewan schools. More recently, she was the visual creator and illustrator for the award winning children's book series, 'The Blues Go Birding'. Louise is mother to three wonderful daughters who are now away at college. She is currently enjoying country living with her husband Joseph, near Austin, Texas.
