Description

A sensational murder case is dropped into the laps of the police department of a small Virginia town. It was a seamless killing with no forensic evidence to follow. The nature of the crime attracts both state crime units and several federal law enforcement agencies. The town council becomes adamant about preventing a media circus They find ways to fend off all these super cops by pointing out that Foxtrot has jurisdiction in the case.Captain Johnson a veteran law officer has experience dealing with government bodies and how to get around them. He has a small police force. It appears to be impossible to solve the case nearly single handed. He has a young sergeant who is a well trained detective from the DC police who he desperately needs to take charge of the investigation. Not only is the captain an expert in handling bureaucrats he is an experienced wily leader. Nick tries everything to get out of leading the investigation. Johnson even though he feels a little guilty about his sneaky tricks, foils Nick in a battle of wits.Powerful undercurrents exist unknown to anyone involved in the murder case just uneasy feelings. At some stages of the search for information mysterious manipulations occur leaving Nick with nerve wracking dead ends. It is a lively murder case beginning with no forensic evidence to follow, and no starting point to begin uncovering the why, when and who. This killing is more in the nature of a massacre than a simple murder case. Four corpses are discovered in the home of the CEO of a large DC IT operation well known for its ability to move money internationally. CEO Oscar Strong and his wife are two of the victims. The other murdered people are young employees of Strong Inc. Like a pebble thrown into a pond the case expands rapidly into a complex set of circumstances involving the giant IT organization. Federal government agencies us the IT to move funds often for covert operations. In a strange manner the federal agencies are silent about the killings but reach in at times for information. This probing adds to Nick's work load as he moves through mountains of files on four murder victims and all of their family members. He is overwhelmed by the existence of a sophisticated IT operation tied into the case. Clues appear then vanish when they prove to be useless. A fast moving crime novel with some satire and humor. Here are excerpts: Chapter OneSeveral pedestrians were nearly run over by the pick uptruck as it jumped the curb and screeched to a halt on thesidewalk. A man in work clothes leaped out of the vehicleand sprinted into police headquarters. He had left the truckdoor open and the engine running. Inside the police station the man rushed up to the policeman behind the duty desk. His arms were waving wildly, he looked terrified. The policeman reached for his pistol to protect himself from the madman."No need officer", the man yelled out, "They're all dead!Oh my God! please! please!"Then he collapsed onto the floor."In the middle of the room were the bodies of a man and a woman he judged to be in their forties. The man was lying face up with one arm outstretched clutching a 9MM automatic pistol. The woman was lying on her stomach facing him about ten paces away. A small Beretta was in her hand appearing to be still aimed at the dead man. Features were difficult to make out because of the blood splattered over their bodies. Beyond them was a younger man lying on his back with his legs propped up on a chair. He was gripping a 38 caliber revolver. His gun hand was resting on his bloodied chest. Across from him on the floor was a young woman in a sitting position with her back resting on a couch. Her head was bent to the side against the seat cushion. The sun streaming in from a window lit up her face creating the illusion she was smiling.
