"top rating for both actors and director"

A drama and comedy played out in the American South during the 60's based on a true event that partnered an American bouncer with a classic pianist in an effort to overcome the racial policies in the deep south. Both actors, poles apart, teamed together to change the controversies of the racial attitude of that time with a blend of drama, brilliant performances from the pianist and comedy and an ending to give a top rating to the movie.

"Great performances in the lead roles"

When I see ‘based on a true story’ it always makes me more interested in the movie. This film gives you an appreciation on how it must be have been to live in a segregated America for African Americans despite the eminence, and popularity (among the ‘well to do’), of Dr Shirley. I'm sure there are more hard hitting movies that more accurately reflect this shameful period of US history but the story of the friendship that evolved during this trip is heart warming and ultimately entertaining.

Critic Reviews:

  • " The two leads are quite impressive, managing to overcome the limitations of their largely stock roles. " – Mike Massie
  • " It's light and breezy and matter-of-fact and truly, truly entertaining. " – Richard Propes
  • " Mahershala Ali and Viggo Mortensen are a match made in heaven. In its political correctness, it finds moments of truth. " – Victor Pineyro
