"Lives up to the Reputation"
4 stars"

Halo for PC is an amazing game. The gameplay is good, the plot is good, the enemies are good, the environment is good, the weapons are good.

The PC version is not quite as good as the Xbox version, as the online multiplayer lounges are often empty, and the graphics have been dumbed down in order to allow the game to run on lower end computers.

All the same, this is a must have game for any fan of the FPS genre. The multiplayer is world class, you can fight people online (when the lounges are full) or fight your friends via a LAN connection (that is so much fun). If there's one game a I recommend purchasing its this one.

"A overall good FPS"
4 stars"

Well, what can I say about Halo? Not sure really where to start with this one. I was one of the few Xbox owners who couldn't get into it when it was originally released. Being a hardcore PC FPS fan, the transition to a gamepad just frustrated the hell out of me. I like my FPS fast and action packed, and I like my controllers to like wise be fast and responsive. A gamepad just sucks for this in my opinion. Mouse and keyboard all the way baby!

So, now Halo has arrived in all its glory on the platform of choice for FPS fans. How does it stack up? Well pretty good, but not perfect. The game in my opinion lacks the atmosphere of the great old PC games like the original Unreal and Half-life. It replaced this atmosphere with hordes and hordes of Covenant (your current foe) with even more mutants from the Flood. It is almost a hybrid of Unreal and Serious Sam.

This isn't a bad thing really, as it does make it action packed, but it also does make some game aspects very repetitive and eventually fairly boring (i.e. the indoor zones). But there are some saving graces. The outdoor zones are beautiful and the vehicular mayhem you can create in a warthog or scorpion tank is a hell of a lot of fun.

One thing to note however, make sure your system is top of line if you want to play this game the way it's meant to be played. My P4 3ghz couldn't run the game in all its glory at decent speeds when it had a lamer GeforceFX 5200 in it. Now I'm running it with a Radeon 9800XT and the game just flies. Just be forewarned.

"A note on performance"
4 stars"
Purchased on Mighty Ape

Microsoft’s site contains an FAQ dealing with performance issues. An important point to note is that Halo does not use hardware FSAA (the FAQ provides some reasons as to why). However, Halo does suffer a substantial performance hit if you play with FSAA enabled. In my opinion, there is no noticeable difference in image quality with FSAA switched off (in Halo).

Results from running Halo “timedemo” on a Radeon 9800 Pro 4×FSAA on = 24 FPS avg FSAA off = 37 FPS avg

"Halo CE and custom edition"
5 stars"

Halo CE is a great game, with an in-depth story (will get you hooked on Halo). Great multiplayer. Custom edition is a free add on that you can download from halomaps.com. Custom edition is where anyone can design/build a map and play it online with anyone else. You can create anything from guns, characters, vehicles and you can then upload to the net and play it with people from around the world. There is a huge community for Halo custom edition and there always people playing the game. Recommended!

"It could have been better."
4 stars"

I did not pay much attention to the XBOX version of Halo, as I do for any non-PC games, but I was getting all those comments from all around saying how great it is.

It is a very good game, in a word. Solid game play, nice visuals & sound, and so on. But it should be noted, this is not the best PC action game you can get at the moment.

The graphics, while being very good, are certainly not the best. (and actually a bit slow on my P4 2.8/ GeForce4 4200 machine, 1024 × 768) Unreal2 or UT 2003, in my opinion, looks and performs better.

The storytelling and gameplay is also good, but the action can be a bit repetetive. It almost feels like many areas are there as ‘fillers’.

Maybe I'm simply asking too much? =)

"so-so FPS"
4 stars"

Halo combat evolved isn't a bad game and all but here are down sides.

  1. It has the same sucky graphics as the x box version.
  2. All they did was add a few extra weapons and maps SO WHATS THE BIG DEAL!!.
  3. The x box version has more online players then the computer damm>
  4. I mean common must I state another reason shesh theres plenty more were that came from.

F.Y.I i am planning on buying it soon so don;t ask when i buy it.
