However, the terrorist group Al-Shabaab continues to carry out heinous attacks; including suicide bombings against government and international targets - such as the recent fatal truck bomb explosion in Mogadishu on 28 December 2019, killing at least 76 people - including many innocent university students, police officers and injuring dozens more. Al-Shabaab was also responsible for the deadliest single attack in the country's history, in 2017, when a truck bomb exploded next to a fuel tanker in Mogadishu, creating a fire-storm which killed nearly 600 people. Hence it is imperative that global anti-terrorist cooperation is improved in Somalia - with the assistance of the international community - to restore rule-of-law, human rights, peace and prosperity in this beautiful region.
