Another winner from Pencil First Games. Beautiful art from Beth Sobel combines with some simple rules to provide a clever and fast card game.
In Herbaceous, herb collectors compete to grow and store the most valuable medley of herbs. Everyone starts with four containers, each of which allows a different grouping action. On your turn, you draw an herb, then decide to either keep it in your personal garden or place it in the communal garden. If you keep it, the next card goes to the communal garden. If you place the first one in the communal garden, then you must keep the second one. As the communal garden grows, players begin to vie for the herbs there. During your turn, you may also pot herbs from the communal and your personal garden, but you only have 4 containers to use during the whole game. So, you and the other players must push their luck and decide when is the right time to take herbs from the communal garden and pot them.
