Description

Author Howard Egan has been hunting fallow deer in NZ for 60 years, and farmed them for 10. In this book he has gathered together these years of hard-won knowledge to help the hunter understand the differences between fallow and other deer, and to make the experience of hunting fallow more successful.

  • Covers the basics of fallow deer behaviour, for example, they don’t look uphill, so always approach them from above
  • Where the herds are in NZ – from South Kaipara, through the Waikato, Bay of Plenty, Wanganui, Wairarapa, Nelson, Otago and Southland and whether on public or private land
  • Where you are likely to find them by time of day, and by season, and the different terrains preferred by does or buck.
  • Includes the big fallow trophies of the past and present, and some of the best stories of hunting this species.

Howard Egan, aka ‘Grandad’ on the Huntnfish forum, where he posts his popular stories of hunting fallow, is based in the Wairarapa.
