Review

"Fans of hidden picture books will love this treasure-filled installment in the highly successful “I Spy” series. Simple rhymes provide readers with the clues needed to spy the various objects in the full color photographs on each spread. Some of the objects are so well hidden that they take an extensive amount of searching to find. Wick has also hidden objects in the photos that are not listed in the riddles. For example, on the first spread I could not find the dolphin, rolling pin, or hanger, but I did find a baseball, zipper, and two bobby pins. These additional objects are listed in the extra credit riddles in the back of the book. The object is to go back through the book and find the pictures which go along with them. Instructions are given on how to construct “I Spy” riddles, as well as a note on how the sets for the treasure hunt were built and photographed. A full page of foil stickers is also included. It all adds up to a winning combination making this a sure-to-be-popular book in classrooms and libraries everywhere. Note: Although this series is geared toward children in early elementary school, it is also popular with older children and even adults. It is a great tool for sharpening observation skills and is being used successfully by stroke victims and those with learning disabilities." Pat Trattles, Children's Literature
