Author Biography:

Dr. Udaya K. Madawala, Associate Professor, Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering, The University of Auckland, New Zealand. Madawala received his PhD (Power Electronics) from The University of Auckland, New Zealand in 1993. He was employed by Fisher & Paykel Ltd, New Zealand as a Research and Development Engineer in 1993, and he joined the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at The University of Auckland as a Research Fellow and worked on various energy related power electronics projects. At present, he is a full-time Associate Professor and serves as an Associate Editor for IEEE Transactions on Industrial Electronics, IEEE Transactions on Power Electronics and International Journal on Industrial Electronics and Motor Drives. He has more than 130 international journal and conference publications and 6 patents with more pending. His research interests are in the fields of renewable or green energy, power electronics and inductive power transfer (IPT), and he works as a consultant to industry in these fields. Dr. Duleepa J Thrimawithana, Research Fellow, Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering, The University of Auckland, New Zealand. Thrimawithana's research interest is de-centralised energy generation schemes for domestic uses, including the development of novel grid integration techniques for various green energy sources and bi-directional wireless links for charging electrical vehicles.
