"Love & Hate"
4 stars"
Purchased on Mighty Ape

I have mixed feelings, always had since I saw it at the cinema. In terms of spectacle, scale and overall visual execution: unprecedented, without a doubt some of the finest work ever shot for sci-fi. The atmosphere alone still makes me feel like it was a nightmare. There are some scenes that feel too surreal, or too hauntingly alien, it's hard to describe. I would recommend it to anyone. It was also the first digital soundtrack I ever bought, the music can stand by itself.

Just be aware it can be very sentimental. And I had no lack of invested emotion, but I was still disappointed by the ending, by some of the dialogue and the cliché message that love conquers all. I don't hate the message, I just don't like how it was forced. I thought it was under-appreciated by local critics the year it was out, and I still think it's overrated by the average viewer now. It's a good film, and I'm pickier about such sentiment than most.

With that said, I'm interested in many kinds of movies. Nolan's style even appeals to me, but I think I'm being fair headed in saying that he goes over-the-top with this one. I was not remotely bored by the length, I didn't have a problem with the technical explanation, I was not confused by the concepts (except for when it was intentional), in fact I love how this was the first time an accurate depiction of a black hole was ever rendered, even in the scientific field. I'm not even troubled by the sound mixing, I say that as a foley mixer myself. It's unusual but not a mistake.

The symbiosis between the realms of science, faith and humanities is explored enticingly. It's a very ambitious and challenging movie, so I'm still glad Nolan tried with it. I appreciate all these qualities, it's painfully close to being a masterpiece, but I don't want you getting high hopes for the writing, and I can't praise it without censuring the conclusion. Perhaps my aspirations for it were too great… This was supposed to be a quick review.

“Makes you aspire for it a lot” There we go.

"Long and convoluted"

It's a good story but very long winded…maybe two or three viewings and I'll fully appreciate it.

"Worth it for the Robots"
4 stars"
Purchased on Mighty Ape

Why I like it:

  1. The robots. Tars and Case are superb, get all the best dialogue lines, and are some of the most interesting animation examples in movies.
  2. The theme. I like the idea of humans being explorers again, hitting a higher purpose, and doing cool stuff in space.
  3. Acting. It's actually pretty decent, and uses its cast well. The only person I don't rate in this is Hathaway, and I think that's mostly because she's given limited room to move.

The bad-

  1. The scene at the end explaining the inside of a black hole and gravity / time distortion. The SFX are great, the acting is over the top and misses its mark.
  2. Inconsistent approach to take-off. Space ship leaves Earth on booster rockets at the start but then for every other planet can do orbital flights in a vehicle the size of a car.

It's fun, it's well worth living in the collection and I can see myself watching again (as I already have). Good acting, nice story, a shade long but doesn't skimp on detail or visual spectacle.

"A must see masterpiece indeed"
4 stars"

Christopher Nolan has done it again, this time a sci Fi thriller which he never touched on before but like wise with all his previous films he has created a stunning movie. There a lot of themes in this movie, a lot physiological aspects to it and I especially love the contrast and the connection between love and gravity. A stunning experience exploring the unknowns of space.

"Told through a series of flashbacks..."

While the science is certainly fiction, and the Father Daughter relationship a tad hokey for me, there are some great even amazing scenes intertwined through it…Like “Gravity” it's really a movie about getting home.

"Great Sci-fi"

While this not be for every one, those that enjoy a possible look into the future with a twist will find this movie enjoyable.

"I appreciated the movie's effort to honour real physics"
5 stars"
Purchased on Mighty Ape

The movie was strange, filled with thought provoking twists and had a nice ending. I'm not certain how a fifth dimension tesseract fits in to any real sense of Physics but it did make for a bizarre and effective ending.

"Love conquers space and time"
5 stars"
Purchased on Mighty Ape

Another absolute masterpiece by Christopher Nolan. Interstellar has some of the most breathtaking scenes captured in a sci-fi film. The story is about how love conquers all, it sounds cheesy but it is executed so well that you will feel eternally satisfied at the conclusion. An definite must watch for any type of fan. 10/10

"Great Blu-Ray"
4 stars"

A really great film and great blu ray quality! The film does shift between the 35mm film and 75mm which means that some scenes will take up your whole tv screen but the transitions are pretty seemless. Overall it's great!
