Description

A Ducati motorcycle wins the Battle of the Twins race but the second placing is a surprise - an almost unknown motorcycle called a Britten. Little is known about the bike. Then rumour spreads that the sleek machine was hand-built by some fellow in his home workshop, in a remote place called New Zealand. In his brief life John Britten designed everything from a tool to make a tool to make a staircase, to the world's most advanced motorbike. Yet John was an abject failure at school. Seen as slow by his teachers, John's schoolbooks attest to his wonderful visualising ability and engineering understanding. An inspirational, true-life story of a design-engineering genius.

Shortlisted for New Zealand Post Children's Book Award: Non-Fiction Award 2005.
Shortlisted for LIANZA Children's Book Awards: Elsie Locke Award 2005.
