Description

John Dies at the End is a 2012 American black comedy-horror film based on David Wong's novel of the same name.

From the director of Bubba Ho-tep and Phantasm…

It's all about the Soy Sauce, a drug that promises an out-of-body experience with each hit. But some who come back are no longer human. Suddenly a silent otherworldly invasion is underway, and mankind needs a hero. What it gets instead is John and David, a pair of college dropouts who can barely hold down jobs.

John Dies at the End Movie Reviews

“Based on a novel by David Wong, the film pits two slackers, Dave (Chase Williamson, a deadpan delight) and poor doomed John (Rob Mayes), against paranormal foes. That is, until they trip out on soy sauce (don't ask) and enter a parallel universe where they fight to save the world from shape-shifting creatures. Got that? Who could?..Go for the freaky fun of it.” Rolling Stone

“I'm not saying this film will make more sense if you're high. But it will make more sense if you're high.” Movies.com

John Dies at the End” is really freaking weird. It's along the lines of Quentin Dupieux's “Rubber,” but really pushes the boundaries of absurdity. With its flying moustaches, severed limbs with a mind of their own, having conversations with bratwursts, and a dog driving a truck through a house that's on fire, it's safe to say that “John Dies at the End” will go well over many heads and won't be appreciated and that's fine. Just remember that you don't choose the soy sauce. The soy sauce chooses you." Examiner.com

“Give or take the titular disclosure, John Dies at the End is a thoroughly unpredictable horror-comedy – and an immensely entertaining one, too.” Variety

“Pick of the week: Exorcists, zombies and bromance, oh my! ..Campy B-movie farce and an ominous allegory in one, "John Dies at the End” is an inventive, crazy genre-bender..may be the most freewheeling and imaginative film of Coscarelli’s checkered career, loaded with tripped-out mood and nicely balanced between humor, horror and an underlay of genuine sweetness…With the horror genre showing more signs of life than at any time in the last 20 years or more, and guys that Coscarelli clearly influenced, like Joss Whedon and Zack Snyder, near the top of Hollywood’s A-list, “John Dies at the End” suggests that Don’s got plenty of life in him yet." Salon.com

“It's the kind of movie that's going to alienate almost anyone but the people for whom it's made, who are sure to embrace it and reference it for years to come. Coscarelli's movies—which are far too few and sporadic—are all pretty much cult movies from the get-go. John Dies at the End is sure to be the cultiest of cult movies.” DVD Verdict

“…a hilarious and occasionally icky story that should hit the sweet spot for people who like twisted movies and are fed up with the Hollywood assembly line.” Sci-fi Movie Page
