Description

Neal Petersen was born physically disabled and impoverished in apartheid-era South Africa, but was introduced to healing and equality in the waters surrounding Cape Town. Journey of a Hope Merchant recounts the epic journey that took this misfit kid from a racially segregated, working class neighborhood to the prestigious world of solo yacht racing.

Author Biography:

NEAL PETERSEN is an award-winning author, solo "Around Alone" racing yachtsman, founder of an investment bank and so much more. Few people have realized their dreams, but even fewer have raced solo around the world and in a home built boat! It is an unparalleled adventure, the longest, most extreme race for any man or woman, 27,000 miles in a boat, nine months at sea alone! WILLIAM P. BALDWIN, A lifelong resident of the South Carolina lowcountry, William P. Baldwin has worked as a commercial fisherman, a building contractor, and a professional writer. His previous books include Mrs. Whaley and Her Charleston Garden, The Fennel Family Papers, Heaven Is a Beautiful Place, and The Hard to Catch Mercy--winner of the Lillian Smith Award and the Dictionary of Literary Biography Yearbook Award and a finalist for the Southern Circle Critics Award. Baldwin lives in McClellanville. PATTY FULCHER, a native of Charleston, South Carolina. Has worked as an elementary school teacher and a medical researcher. Now retired, she assists her husband in his medical practice and Baldwin with writing projects. Fulcher also lives in McClellanville.
