When circumstances took him away from this lifelong dream, he became a Naval Flight Officer, blazing the path for thousands who later followed. Captain Smith made a mark on history during his wartime cruises in the Vietnam War; he was one of the founders and the first Commanding Officer of the Navy Fighter Weapons School, revealing the untold story of "Top Gun" in this book. The culmination of his career was as Commanding Officer of VF-114, Command at Sea.

Author Biography:

Carol Smith was born in Stamford, Texas - grew up in and around Ft. Worth, Texas. She graduated Comanche High School, followed by Liberal Arts Courses and Journalism. Declined a scholarship to Baylor Law School to marry J.C. Smith, then a Lieutenant Junior Grade in the Navy. For the next twenty years a stay-at-home Mom with four children while J.C. Smith served 20 years in the US Navy. Began free-lance writing in 1980, publishing stories and articles in EJAG NEWS, MOTORHOME LIFE, JACK & JILL, CRICKET, READ ME, RV'N ON, MILITARY COLLECTORS' JOURNAL AMERICAN POETRY, and an occasional column in the SAN ANGELO STANDARD TIMES. Most recently published a short story fiction book INSIDE OUT and a book of poetry CLOSE TO MY HEART. Presently resides in San Angelo, Texas, with Retired Captain J.C. Smith.
