Author Biography

Alison Edwards is a Senior Midwifery Lecturer and Programme Director for the Shortened Midwifery programme at the University of Birmingham. Alison has been a nurse and midwife for over 32 years, progressing through a BSc and Masters' degree during that time. Having taken up teaching for the last 17 years she has developed particular interests in complex midwifery care most especially pre-eclampsia, and mentorship. During 2019/20 she successfully defended her PhD in Midwifery, focusing on vitamin supplementation and pre-eclampsia. Having published numerous articles and developed a number of teaching tools she achieved senior fellowship within teaching. Current projects involve the development of virtual teaching tools including the use of avatars simulating labour scenarios, and escape room technology.
