Description

The cadastre is the public inventory of data on the properties within a certain country or district, based on a survey of their boundaries. The Land Register is a public register of deeds and rights concerning real property. Cadastral and land registration systems are important in all parts of the world to ascertain ownership. Since the advent of Geographical Information Systems, cadastral and land registration are now being automated; in many developing countries the true value of information on land and property is now being realized. A clear, concise guide to these automated systems is needed, as many countries are now spending millions of US dollars on automating their cadastral and land registration systems. This book considers cadastral and land registration systems as tools for land information and management. It looks at methods for feasibility studies and the practical implications of surveying and adjudication and it analyzes general trends, benefits and costs. It covers principal alternatives for cadastral and Land Registration Systems in rural and urban areas and looks at other countries' systems of land registration.
