This is a VERY GOOD LOOKING set. The pieces are Plastic, however they are magnetic. Please note that only the chess pieces are magnetic and some larger pieces (eg: the king and queen) seem to have be not very magnetic. The board is a good size – not portable. Somewhere I read “Sturdy set” don't quite agree with that – I would treat with care. Sometimes it is difficult to fit all the chess pieces back into the box that it was delivered in and they are also very likely to chip.
Oh and there's a tiny backgammon set… Nough said.
