LIZZIE MCGUIRE is the hit Disney show that offers a laugh-filled look at the life of the title character, a sassy teen with a group of fun-loving friends. Accompanying the series is music eminently suited for the show's target audience (i.e. kids the same age as or younger than the main character). Accordingly, there's no shortage of teen acts peddling their wares here, from the funk-inflected sounds of co-ed quintet Jump 5 to the chirpy, seemingly Abba-influenced pop of the all-girl outfit Play. In a pleasing nod to history, one of the first and best kid groups is represented with the presence of the Jackson 5's immortal ABC. Seeming positively ancient in this context, Californian rockers Smashmouth nevertheless provide this disc with one of its high points with their frenetic ska version of War's '70s classic "Why Can't We be Friends."
