It is difficult to imagine that anyone could play the role of Lord Peter Wimsey better than Ian Carmichael. The story is in five one hour (less ad time) episodes and is faithful to the book. People used to watching modern fast-paced mysteries may find this story, to a certain extent, slow to develop but it is still well worth viewing.

Description

The Jazz Age: the height of fashion, of opulence and excess. In the Roaring Twenties high living was King, and low cunning was Queen. Amidst the art deco and cocktails, diabolical masterminds plotted, schemed and murdered their way to untold fortunes … and standing in their way was the dapper, monocled Lord Peter Wimsey, the quintessentially English gentleman detective.

With the aid of his manservant Bunter and Scotland Yard’s Inspector Charles “Parker Bird” Parker, Lord Peter risks life and limb to thwart fiendish plots as they investigate cases littered with red herrings and corpses at the heart of the idle rich.

In Clouds of Witness, the Duke of Denver is accused of murdering a card-carrying cad at a country estate shooting party. When the inquest throws up conflicting versions of events, Lord Peter Wimsey races against time to prove his future brother-in-law’s innocence internationally as the high-profile case reaches the House of Lords!

British cinematic legend Ian Carmichael, in a rare dramatic role as Lord Peter Wimsey, is joined by an all-star cast as Dorothy L Sayers’ urbane, fiercely intelligent detective and his rich, often murderous world of high society are brought to life in a series of colourful and authentic 1920s whodunits.
