David Ian Rabey has been hailed as a fierce, pioneering Welsh playwright, critically acclaimed for his innovative and extreme drama that pushes the boundaries of contemporary theatre. "Lovefuries" is a double bill of performance pieces that dares to challenge the subjects of grief and sexual abuse and defies national and personal pressures to keep silent about such issues. In both plays, intense emotion is translated into physicality and vigour from the page to the stage. Highly charged and full of suspense, this restlessness is evident in dialogue, character and staging of the pieces and is presented to audience and reader though vivid, brutal language. As its title suggests, "Lovefuries" shocks and surprises through contradictory and unique images.
David Ian Rabey is Professor of Drama and Theatre Studies at Aberystwyth University, and artistic director of Lurking Truth/Gwir sy'n Llechu theatre company, which he co-founded in 1985.
