From the moment I downloaded the demo I knew that this would be a great
game. Mafia 2 looks amazing, plays nicely and has an amazing storyline.
Unfortunately this is all held back by the playing style most people, including
me, even me, expect from a sandbox style game and environment. Comparing this
game to this year's Red Dead Redemption I have found this game to be linear.
Not so much linear like Call of Duty where you are expected to follow one path,
but in the sense that there are no side missions and the only thing for you to
do in the city is the main story. Having a large game world, we expect there to
be something else out there but instead 2K have filled it with a boring 40/50s
city. The only reason you would want explore would be to make money at the car
delivery area, money to spent on clothes and tuning cars.
Now that the cons are over we can focus on the good. 2K have pieced together
an amazing story line that makes you want to continue through the story. The
characters are lovely and believable too. The main character, Vito, is your
classic Momma's boy who strays from the line of the innocent man into a life of
crime. The visuals in this game are pretty nice too, a few problems that should
be patched out soon but other than that it is lovely.
To conclude I think Mafia is worth a play through. The story line is great
and you feel like you are actually a criminal. The small issues will not be
enough to hold you back from playing through.
