"New to Mafia games...loved it"
5 stars"
Purchased on Mighty Ape

I'm surprised by the negative reviews for this game. I can only put it down to one of two things… 1) people who have played previous mafia games and aren't happy with this version, and 2) people who find the racial issues too confrontational. Ok, I'll make a number 3) people who don't like the music. I say that last point as a white 40 year old male who listens to student radio, and I think this is one of the best soundtracks I've heard in a game (possibly sharing with Brutal Legend). Yes you have to drive around a lot, but when you're listening to classic Vietnam era rock 'n roll it's a pleasure. Out on a limb here, but I think this is better than any of the GTA games.

Mafia 3 is a great game. It looks great and the gameplay is awesome. Although its a little repetitive. Still recommend to buy.

"Average, to put it best."
3 stars"

After having previously played the first 2 Mafia games (which I quite enjoyed!), I thought I'd give this a chance. And well, I ask myself the question after having played it, why is it even open world- The games have always been focused on the story and thats not a bad thing, just there is no point of this being open world as the game is repetitive (ridiculously so) and the world literally has nothing to offer apart from doing missions. Was a bit let down, and this is kind of a rant now, but yeah.

"A mediocre joke"
2 stars"

I'm sure it came as a surprise to everyone when word got out that Mafia 3 was actually bad. How could this be- I'll tell you. The game is nothing but the same 3 side objectives repeated over and over with the very rare 2 minute ‘story mission’, so you spend hours, no DAYS doing the exact same thing and feeling no sense of progression. The game is littered with bugs and glitches, like wow, so many bugs. The graphics during cutscenes are incredible, the graphics during gameplay…not so much. I don't care about the 30fps frame rate but that seems to bother some people. The story is literally the ONLY thing keeping you going though this repetitive slosh but even then it's so boring and poorly presented , not to mention having barely anything to do with anything MAFIA related, that nobody will blame you if you give up laying the game after 20 hours of doing the exact same missions in the exact same locations and still feeling like you haven't gotten anywhere.

"Its okay (something to keep my going until Skyrim is released)."
3 stars"
Purchased on Mighty Ape

I would say that this game is probably just average and will keep me entertained until Skyrim PS4 is released. It isnt fair to compare it to GTA V because they are no where near the same level of quality. The story in Mafia 3 is incredible and so well done however the game world is dull and bland to play – there is nothing making you feel part of the world. No NPC conversations together which make sense (usually a comment then the other NPC responds with something not related), no changing clothes, customising cars or random events (such as street parties) shown in the preview of the game. Also, side missions are lackluster. that being said, the music is outstanding and the shooting is fun. I am enjoying it, but it is starting to get repetitive.

"Plays Great Looks Horrible"

The Story is fantastic, the game play is fun but some times repetitive. The graphics unfortunately let this game down quite a bit, from low res textures to weird lighting. Still a very fun game to play.

It’s 1968 and the rules have changed. After years in Vietnam, Lincoln Clay knows this truth: Family isn’t who you’re born with, it’s who you die for. Now back home, in a reimagined New Orleans, Lincoln is set on rebuilding his life, but old ties keep him from leaving the city. It will take more than a few friends to make it in this new world. Intense gun fights, visceral hand-to-hand combat, white knuckle driving and street smarts will all be needed. But with the right crew, tough decisions and some dirty hands, it’s possible to make it to the top of the city's underworld. It’s time to create a new family.

  • DISCOVER A REIMAGINED NEW ORLEANS IN 1968: Immerse yourself in a vast, diverse and seedy open world ruled by the mob and corrupt officials and richly detailed with the sights, sounds and emotionally charged social atmosphere of one of the most turbulent years in American history.
  • AN UNINTENDED AND LETHAL ANTI-HERO: Be Lincoln Clay, an orphan and Vietnam veteran hell bent on revenge against the Italian Mafia after the brutal slaughter of the black mob, the closest thing to family he's ever had
  • CHOOSE YOUR PATH TO REVENGE AND BUILD YOUR OWN CRIMINAL EMPIRE: Choose your own personal play-style, from brute force and blazing guns to stalk-and-kill tactics as you use Lincoln's military training and gathered intel to tear down the Mafia. Rebuild a new criminal empire in your own unique way by deciding which of your lieutenants you reward, and which you betray…
