Watching Abenobashi is one of the most unique experiences I have ever encounter! I am always a big fan of GAINAX, but Abenobashi is one of the most unusual works ever (along side with FLCL).
Packaging: The packaging of the first DVD is great. The cover arts are nicely designed. The insert booklet is well detailed and interesting. I can’t wait until the second volume to come out!
Storyline/Character designs: The storyline is quite interesting. When I saw the first episode, I wasn’t really into it. But as the story progress, I begin to love it. You will laugh so hard that you cannot stop. The character designs are quite interesting. Some of them are cute, some of them are just plain scary. GAINAX has done a great job in creating storyline and the characters.
Sounds/Music: The English tracks are quite impressive; ADV has done a great job in Abenobashi. The Japanese tracks are done in a heavy Osaka accents hence the main characters are from Osaka; it also includes some Osaka Puns, which cannot really translate into English. I prefer the original Japanese voice than the English, but the English voice is quite well done. The music is great, both opening and ending themes are done by Megumi Hayashibara~ Therefore they are excellent.
Extras: There are a lot of great extras on this DVD. The AD Vid note is the most significant one; it provides numerous cultural and visual in-joke references and puns to life.
Overall, Abenobashi is a must have. It is really funny and unique. I recommend it to all the anime fans.
