"A perfect example of everything that can go wrong with an anime."
1 stars"

This is one of the single worst anime I've had the misfortune of watching. That's not to say that it's the worst quality – Mars of Destruction retains that unfortunate title. Magical Warfare does something far worse. It starts out badly, with the most generic premise, boring characters, and average direction, but offers the slightest glimmer of hope. That slight possibility of maybe improving. So you watch the second episode. The premise becomes even more stale, the action more boring, and the characters somehow become more 2-dimensional, but there were some fun scenes, so you'll stick with it for just a little longer.

By the time you realise that it's not going to get any better you're already more than halfway through. And hey, by that point you've already invested enough time in it that you might as well see it through. After all, it can't get any worse. And then the ending happens. Not to spoil any of the actual details, but it's a massive cliffhanger in a series that never stood a chance of getting a sequel. It resolves nothing while giving the middle finger to everything it had (tried to) accomplish so far. It's basically just there to convince you to go read the books it's based on. Which is tricky considering they aren't available in English.

This is the worst kind of series. The kind that wastes your time, betrays what little expectations you had, and leaves you with a bad taste in your mouth. If you still feel tempted to watch this then there are plenty of better alternatives (Light Novel adaptions aren't known for their originality). Series like A Certain Magical Index, Strike the Blood, and Tokyo Ravens are all identical with the exception of actually being good. Check them out instead.

Description

Takeshi Nanase is an ordinary high school boy who has a somewhat dark past. One day, he comes across a girl named Mui Aiba collapsed on the school campus. Mui tells Takeshi that she is a magician, and she apologizes, for she turned Takeshi into a magician, too. What Takeshi once knew as one world is actually two — the world where magicians live and the world where humans live.
