Description

* What really happens in an inspection of a primary school? * What are the effects of inspections on primary schools and teachers? * How do inspectors feel about the inspection process? Making Sense of Primary Inspection provides a unique insight into these and many other issues. Based on a series of case studies, the book examines what really happens in inspections both in technical and emotional terms. It explores tensions between judgement and development, myth and reality, evidence and interpretation and the institution and the individual. It raises issues about power, professionalism, objectivity, credibility and confidence and reveals the internal workings of inspection as conditional, negotiated and dominated by human nature. This book will be invaluable reading for all primary school headteachers, teachers and governors who have either undergone or are preparing for inspection. It will also be of great interest to school inspectors.
