Excerpt from Marketing Flowers: Credit and Financing Problems of Retail and Wholesale Florists in Four Iowa Cities Data presented in this report were obtained through interviews with retail and wholesale florists in Cedar Rapids, Des Moines, Sioux City, and Waterloo. Forty-six retail and 10 wholesale florists were interviewed. In addition, officials of 12 banks were interviewed to determine whether they considered florists to be credit risks. Sales of the 46 retail florists totaled more than $3 million in 1963, and averaged per firm. Gross sales of small firms averaged medium-sized firms, and large firms, Small firms had average gross sales of per full-time employee, compared with for medium and for large firms. Only 7 of the 46 retail firms were incorporated. Most of the firms were single proprietorships, and almost a third were partnerships.
