Description

Designed for use in the classroom, this book provides the basic skills required for comprehension and newsgathering from Arabic radio, TV and newspapers. It assumes knowledge of no more than the basic grammar and a restricted vocabulary and can be used in large or small classes. Primary emphasis is on learning to manipulate structures, short-term and vocational vocabulary acquisition and self-assessment/independent work. Based on news material from newspapers and the spoken media, the course can be used by students, businessmen and journalists.

Author Biography

Julia Ashtiany Bray is Professor of Medieval Arabic Literature at the Universite Paris 8. She is editor of The Cambridge History of Arabic Literature (Cambridge University Press, 1991) and Writing and Representation in Medieval Islam (Routledge, 2006).
