Good company and insightful
Michael Palin (of Monty Python fame) starts a journey from the centre of the north pole to the south pole.
Travelling through the Soviet Union, which only a few days after he left disappeared from existence, he meets some really amazing people, and travels through some very interesting places. At one point while travelling through Russia he gets of in a town with a Geiger counter, which is clicking away due to the radiation left over from Chernobyl.
His journey through Egypt is full of incredible sights of one of the worlds most interesting ancient cultures.
Going through Africa, as he comes to the half-way point, you'll see a very fun demonstration of the coriolis effect in action. I was amazed at how pronounced the effect was, with only a slight shift… You'll have to buy the DVD to see it.
As you'd expect from someone from the Monty Python team, there are some great moments that'll make you laugh, but this is not a comedy. Palin also has a very sharp intellect, and his masterful use of English to create a deeper atmosphere for the areas he travels through than the images alone can give, truly make this, and all his travel series something to watch.
This is great entertainment, and also a bit of education for all ages, I highly recommend it.
