Description

In striking black-and-white illustrations, Chaboute retells the story of the Great American Novel. Captain Ahab strikes out on a voyage, obsessively seeking revenge on the great white whale that took his leg.

Author Biography

Herman Melville was born in New York City in 1819. He worked as a crew member on several vessels beginning in 1839, his experiences spawning his successful early novels Typee (1846) and Omoo (1847). Subsequent books, included his masterpiece Moby-Dick (1851). Following his death in New York City in 1891, he posthumously came to be regarded as one of the great American writers. Author Residence- Author is deceased. Christophe Chaboute studied Fine Arts in both Angoulame and Strasbourg. His first work appeared in the magazine Suivre and in a collective album about Arthur Rimbaud in the collectin Les Recits of Vents d'Ouest. His real debut was in 1998, when he produced Sorci res at Le Temenaire publishers. This was followed by Quelques Jours d' te and Un lot de Bonheur, which were published by the Swiss Paquet publishers. Back at Soleil, he conceived Zoe in 1999, Pleine Lune in 2000, La Bate in 2001 and the Purgatoire series from 2003. Chaboute has also collaborated on a collective album about Leo Ferre.
