In 1989, soon after the launch of their own label Cow Records, Inspiral Carpets released their frst mail order cassette DUNG 4. In a mill located on South Street Ashton-under-Lyne, and with almost no budget, the band unwittingly changed the fate of the North West England music scene at the end of the 80s.
Along with the Stone Roses and the Happy Mondays, Inspiral Carpets contributed to the creation of what would then be called the Madchester movement.
The album is enriched by 4 bonus tracks from their earlier demo tape, COW, recorded in May 1987
