Chair of the International Centre for Creative Writing Research, his works include: SWALLOWING FILM: SHORT FILM FICTION; BLACK CAT, GREEN FIELD; TEACHING CREATIVE WRITING; SIGNS OF LIFE: CINEMA AND MEDICINE, with A. Moor; and SMALL MAPS OF THE WORLD. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society for the Encouragement of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce (RSA) and of the Royal Geographical Society (RGS), an Honorary Professor at the University of Bedfordshire (UK), and a member of the Welsh Academi. His awards include the National Book Council Award for New Fiction (Australia) and many others.
