My Salinger Year
It's the mid-90s: idealistic twenty-something Joanna (Qualley) impulsively quits graduate school and arrives in New York to pursue her dream of becoming a published poet. She manages to get her foot in the door, landing a coveted role as assistant to Margaret (Weaver), a brusque and old-fashioned literary agent. MY SALINGER YEAR is a memorable and compassionate depiction of a pre-digital world on the cusp of disappearance, the value of mentorship, and the lasting impact of self-expression in all its forms.
Critic Reviews:
- " Qualley is destined to be a star. A great, great nostalgia piece about the glories of being a literature nerd. " – Witney Seibold (Critically Acclaimed Podcast)
- " Philippe Falardeau has here fashioned a love letter to both literature and to those who are so earnestly shaped by it. " – Molly Adams (In Review Online)
- " My Salinger Year is a film that can be enjoyed as much for the sea of affectionate literary allusions in which it swims, as for its humour, its quirky cast of characters, or its success as a heartfelt character study. " – Monica Reid (Far Out Magazine)
