In My Year 2009: Facing the Heat, the 8th volume to appear in Douglas Messerli’s on-going cultural memoirs, the author expresses that he suspected, what with the beginning of Barack Obama’s presidency, the country would have to face “the heat,” so speak, the wrath of the divided electorate and legislatures, mirrored in works of travel, literature, art, dance, and film.

Author Biography:

Editor and publisher of Sun & Moon Press and Green Integer, Messerli is the author of several books of poetry, fiction, and drama, and has now authored 16 books of his ongoing annual cultural memoirs MY YEAR, of which 8 volumes have now been published. In 2004 he was named Officier de l'ordre des Arts et des Lettres by the French government. As a publisher he was won various awards, including The Carey-Thomas Award for Creative Publishing in 1987; the ALTA Ward for Dedication to Translation (2000); and The American Book Award (1998). As a writer he received an award from the Foundation of Contemporary Arts. He has also edited numerous anthologies including the acclaimed From the Other Side of the Century: A New American Poetry 1960-1990, and volumes of the Project for Innovative Poetry (PIP) series.
