After playing Empire Total War heavily I bought Napoleon on release date, a lot of things have been improved and the game runs quite well. The graphics are pretty top notch for a strategy game and even with the bumped up graphics the game still runs on tthe same specs neede to run Empire. I really enjoy the time period the game is set in and like the style of ranged combat as opposed to big melee fights. The units are detailed really well, even zoomed right in and mostly act in a believeable fashion. The new terrain effects are really cool, cannons and other artillery peices leave big gauges in the maps. The new ability to play all the campaigns with a mate over LAN and the net is really cool too, I have played a couple over the LAN and had a few dropouts and bugs but otherwise a really great experience, best shared with a mate of around the same experience.

My biggest gripe with this game and its prequel is the AI. The computer opponent seems quite good when your first finding your feet but once you get into the strategies and counters you'll quickly find the AI predictable and unable to really challenge you. It does stupid things and its armies never really work together to achieve its goals, on the battle map and the campaign map.

Even with these flaws I've still spent far to much time on this game so 4/5.

Ive bought every single total war game to date and this one takes the take. Sublime graphics massively improved unit movement and engrossing campaign and epic multiplayer all together adds up to possibly the best strategy/rts experiences money can buy, cant praise enough

"Huge improvement over Empire: Total War"

When it comes to graphics, sound, immersion, authenticity, Napoleon: Total War is far superior to its predecessor. It's very enjoyable and very beautiful, but sadly something had to give. When they decided to tackle the Napoleonic era, the developers shrunk the campaign map significantly. You can no longer have battles in India and the Americas, like in Empire. It's only the European theater. It's like a slap in the face after Empire's scale. Apart from that, it's well worth checking out.

This is a very good game. Production values shoot through the roof. Gameplay mechanics and graphics are unchanged from Empire : Total War, but this is mixed up with the engrossing story of the great midget general Napolean Bonaparte.

The map is beautiful and the extra units and map detailing Napoleon's campaign is worth every penny, because if you bought them all separately you'd pay twice as much.

The graphics are stellar but come at a cost. Everything takes ages to load. Unless your computer is 1337, you won't be able to run this at playable framerate, unless you scale it right back to 800×600, 2× Anti-Aliasing, and small texture memory.

The AI is also horrible.

Very good game if your computer can handle it. :P
