"All-around Masterpiece"

A story about the war between Androids and Machines, the game explores unique perspectives on society and philosophy of life. Absolutely beautiful soundtrack which seamlessly transitions from one location to another. A diverse exploration of different environments. Lastly, addictive and dynamic battle mechanics all come together to make a masterpiece. A game ahead of its time. 10/10 from me.

The combat was super fun, and the story was pretty interesting. Give it a go if you're into character action games.

Awesome game.

  • Incredibly enjoyable combat, similar to DmC in its combos and style
  • I really liked the mixing and matching of weapons providing different combos and playstyles
  • The story was amazing with so many different things to offer and surprise you with.

One of my favourite games of all time, so much respect for Yoko Taro for creating this masterpiece!

"A great game, let down by frame-rate issues"

Loving the game so far, it's exceptional and will give hours of entertainment to anyone who loves a well thought out story with some amazing action thrown in to the mix. The only issue I see is it can be very laggy, but hopefully they patch that soon, I haven't experienced this ever with anything. I still strongly recommend the game

Amazing story and great combat. Huge difference between normal and hard, hard mode you will get 1 shot by almost everything unless you dodge perfectly.

"Amazing game, great story with great music and gameplay."

Most characters were very likeable. The one character I didn't like was 9S, who started to become more likeable towards the end and was accompanied by an extra gameplay element which made it easier to tolerate playing as him in the second playthrough. Most sidequests were great, ranging from mildly entertaining to hilarious. Lots of lore to find across the game if it interests you. Story was incredible, 3 playthroughs are necessary to experience the actual ending. The first playthrough being with 2B, the second being with 9S from his perspective. Playing as 9s sometimes he would be experiencing other things to 2B, sometimes splitting off from her entirely which helps keep things interesting while playing through mostly what was the same content. Playthrough C however was an entire new set of story where you are able to choose between 2 playable characters. After completing playthrough C with both characters you unlock a final ending, also unlocking several extra features like chapter select and the ability to buy trophies after completing it once. A lot of the textures are quite poor in the environment, but they are complimented by nice scenery. You wont spend too long looking at the environment the state that it's in, but there are definitely areas to look at in awe. The textures were a great compromise to provide us with 60 fps. Had it been at 30 fps but nicer textures I wouldn't have found it nearly as enjoyable. Performance was mostly great, with some small dips below 60 fps. For the most part steady 60 fps. Gameplay is very standard Hack ‘n’ Slash with some extra odd bits thrown in here and there. Attacking is very fluent, accompanied by absolutely stunning animations making it enjoyable to watch your character fight. Seamless perspective changes to 2D sidescroller point of views were enjoyable and didn't feel forced. The changes in perspective don't take away from the gameplay at all. Difficulty levels range from stupidly easy to considerably hard. I enjoy my games at hard difficulties, playing it on the second hardest difficulty. Easiest difficulty gives you some very strong advantages like auto dodge and auto attack making the game incredibly easy and quick to play through. Second hardest difficulty was fairly challenging, I died several times throughout the game but it never felt too hard and was definitely far from impossible. I haven't personally experienced the hardest difficulty yet, but it lacks lock on mode and bumps up the damage of enemies drastically causing a lot of enemies to one shot kill you if you don't have the proper upgrades equipped to handle it, it seems great for those who want that extra challenge. Upgrading and equipment system was well done, allowing you to customize your character insanely well. From healing after kills, heal over time, to damage received and dealt. Buffs to evasion, movement speed and more. Customizing your loadout seems very essential to the hardest difficulty available. There are a large amount of enemy types in the game, often with quite interesting design. But late into the game the same enemies are recycled into more powerful variants making it feel like there are less enemy types then there actually is. Boss design was fantastic, a favourite is hard to pick. A lot of the bosses change the gameplay considerably in their fights keeping the combat fresh. Overall I would rate this game 9/10. Losing a small amount of points for performance drops, a mostly un-enjoyable character until late into the story, poor texture quality and repeated enemy types.
