"Very, very good!"
5 stars"

A lovely adaptation. Follows the book quite well, all the main events are protrayed that I thought needed to be. Some of the speeches are a bit different and don't give the same atmosphere I got when reading the book, but it's really not an issue. VERY well acted, I cried three times the first time I watched it. Definitely a must for anyone who likes this kind of drama/adapation as it's well worth the watch. Also, if you are a fan of the yummy Richard Armitage who plays the male lead, you will love it!

"Beautufully crafted series that brings the book to life!"
5 stars"
Purchased on Mighty Ape

This beautifully crafted adaptation of Elizabeth Gaskell's North and South brings the early victorian period to life!! Staring Richard Armitage (Robin Hood, more recently as seen on Spooks) in one of his finest and most powerful roles. A must for anyone who loves period drama and historical romance, its powerful and gritty not your average sacrine sop story!

"Moving and thoughtful love story"

There was so much more to this series. Margaret Hale must first learn to adjust to the thinking and ways of the North to fully appreciate the qualities of the mill owner she finally loves. It clearly shows us the life of mill towns in the 10th century at all levels.

"Pride & Prejudice re-imagined-"
4 stars"
Purchased on Mighty Ape

It has the undertones of P&P about it, but its setting etc really brings it into its own. Richard Armitage is fantastic as always, and the main actress was good, but had the constant half-stunned expression on the DVD cover. Over all, was a good mini-series, a bit ‘laggy’, but good.

"A fine line between Love and Hate"
4 stars"

If you enjoy the Jane Austin genre then you will love North & South. A wonderful look into the world of the old cotton mills of England and the hardship which many endured due to the class system. Yet love crosses all boundries and thru all hardships. I wish there was more… Loved it!

"Outstanding!"
5 stars"
Purchased on Mighty Ape

I watched this before I read the book and it really helped me set the scene with all the beautiful cinematography in the TV series. It is one of the best period dramas ever made for the screen – beautiful cinematography used to help tell the story and the actors were chosen well. The lead couple in particular, Richard Armitage and Daniella Denby-Ashe, were perfectly matched in their roles as John Thornton and Margaret Hale. Outstanding adaptation!
