Involved with the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine for more than 20 years, Steele is an assistant professor of psychiatry, a faculty associate at JHU's School of Nursing, co-director of JHU's neuropsychiatry clinic and a senior faculty member at the Copper Ridge Institute. In all of these endeavors, she immerses herself in Alzheimer's and related conditions such as dementia.
But dealing with Alzheimer's is far more than a job for Steele. Seeing firsthand the devastation the disease can wreak on families and long-term care providers, the Severna Park resident has become a tireless educator and advocate, always striving to reach one more family member or one more nurse and help him better understand and provide care for an Alzheimer's patient.
Steele wrote "The Family Guideline Series for Dementia Care," and she established the Dementia Care Skills Lab at Copper Ridge for family caregivers. Copper Ridge, located in Sykesville, is an extension of the JHU School of Medicine that focuses entirely on Alzheimer's.
