Following the huge success of Nirvana’s Nevermind album in 1991, grunge
exploded internationally, and in its slipstream came Pearl Jam, whose debut
album Ten was released a month before Nevermind, and who were undoubtedly
players in their own right. With a trio of multi-Platinum, chart-topping
albums – Ten was followed by Vs. (1993), and Vitology (1994) – and a
string of hit singles to boot, the group quickly became one of the
genre’s driving forces, permanently leaving their mark on American rock
music. Unsurprisingly, as a result of their record sales, accolades and
relentless touring, Pearl Jam garnered considerable media attention, and this
manifested itself in a host of live television appearances across the
first half of the ‘90s. This compilation collates the very best of PJ’s TV
performances from this era and in so doing demonstrates how this now legendary
collective emerged almost fully formed.
