Excerpt from On the Electrolytic Treatment of Tumours: And Other Surgical Diseases Being a Paper Read Before the Medical Society of London, on January 28, 1867 I now proceed to say a few words about the battery required for the electrolytic treatment, and for which the following qualities appear to be necessary: It should furnish a large quantity of electricity, and possess consider able electrolytic properties; it should give a constant and reliable current it should be easy of management, so as to avoid loss of time and trouble in charging and discharging it; it should not easily get out of order; and it should be of such a bulk as to render it possible to carry it easily about. The battery, which is represented on the following page, appears to me to unite all these conditions; it has been constructed for me by Messrs.
