"Full of potential, but i want my money back"
2 stars"

I had written a descent review for this but by the end I was so enraged by this games flaws that I deleted it.

GAMEPLAY.. AI is decidedly all right for the part of the enemies but utter crap for your squad-mates Bugs abound, for instance if you are very close to an enemy he will often stop noticing your presence and just stand there doing nothing. Your squadmates are unable to think for themselves they can be considered as zombies who can shoot and occasionally take cover. Your whole squad will often die in a situation where you alone could have survived and while they may report to you that a fellow squad-mate is in need of medical attention they will do nothing about it. These issues could be avoided playing in co-op mode but then you'd have to let 3 of your friend also fork out for the game. (not something you should let a friend do)

Another annoyance is the accuracy of some of the one shot kills the enemy makes on you. While this is very acceptable and realistic when on foot getting shot in the head while stationary inside a heavily armoured APC is stupid. (I reckon they have written the code so that you will likely be hit by a kill shot when stationary so don't think that being within 8 inches of steel is going to protect you from a shot to the brain).

While the missions are tense and exciting at points the developers have made little use of the large game area. In fact during any one level the rest of the island outside the small set mission zone is pointless. Yes you could go for a 30 km walk across some barren uninhabited and lifeless terrain but there will be neither any enemies there nor anything pretty to look at. The island is a waste of space.

i'm running out of patience thinking about this game so i might finish with a list.

  • Vehicle dynamics are absolute garbage and your vehicles will get stuck (forever(cannot be moved ever)) on rocks you happen to drive over
  • there is no free-look while driving (maybe you put on a neck brace when you drive in the military)
  • no Jump so you could jump over the rocks your stuck on (maybe your a white man)
  • no lean (a self described ‘simulator’ and humans cant lean or jump)
  • no quicksave (no matter how amazing mission checkpoint dynamics you think you've made put in a bloody quicksave)
  • no patch (they haven't made a patch to fix these flaws yet)
  • no normal save (all games have a save)
  • rubbish checkpoint system
  • Cant remove the cross-hair (unless you play the impossible hardcore mode where one mission 20 minute mission will take around 5 hours.

Here is a story. So I was playing on hardcore because I can't abide HUD's and cross-hairs in a military simulator (they don't have magic cross-hairs in real life do they?) By the third mission i'm getting a bit stuck, someone always kills me right at the end or friendly AI commits suicide (seriously) ending the mission. I'm stubborn so I continue playing this mission over and over (20 minute mission) after about 3 days I fluke it and win the mission (yay i'll finally be able to move on). No! this time when I started the game up I selected single mission and not campaign mode and therefore did not unlock the next mission. At this point I have all but given up on the game.

  • I spent money on it (if only I had resisted the urge)
  • graphics are well average (don't be fooled by online videos when this is on full graphics at 1080p it looks years behind crysis which was made years behind 2009.
  • sound of weapons is average (when I go out hunting there's this thing called a sonic boom, a glorious sound that echoes through trees for mile after mile, in this game the Barrett .50 has less punch then a slug gun.)

The list continues but I have given up. I would not recommend this game.

"Far from what was expected."
2 stars"

The game is far from complete. After having pre-ordered and played the game, I was very disappointed.

OFP: DR was nothing like the original OFP. Furthermore the game has many missing elements that were advertised to be in-game.

To name a few faults: No dedicated servers for MP. No join in progress for MP. Poor vehicle designs and physics. Short campaign that hardly explored the game world. Clunky tactical control. Poor weapon/ammo switching… etc.

The PC version is an exact port of console version, it lacks many features that are needed to make a PC game work. It even lacks the most basic of all multiplayer PC games, the inclusion of a CD-Key.

In conclusion, the game did not live up to its expectations. Patches and DLCs are supposedly in the making to fix the many problems.

Having already bought the game I hope the it will be fixed. However for new buyers, my recommendation is to wait until at least the first patch is released. Then check the feedbacks on forums to decide whether Codemasters are willing to spend the effort required to make this into a complete game.

"Far from finnished"
2 stars"

Well I must say. I have played allot of games and this has to be the worst release of a game I have seen in a long time. Graphics are poor at best and online play is an absolute joke. All game previews were cinematic and look nothing like the actual game.
Please spend your hard earned money on something else. You have been warned!

Description

Operation Flashpoint 2 will mark the long-awaited return of the total conflict simulator, which won international acclaim. Now in development, it is Codemasters Studios' most extensive R&D project to date. With the studio's largest development team ever assembled, Operation Flashpoint 2 has already benefited from over two years of pre-production on a closed set basis and will use a new FPS variant of Neon technology, the studio's proprietary middleware.

Building on the original game's heritage, Operation Flashpoint 2 will see the most realistic modelling of conflict scenarios in a new contemporary theatre of war. By offering a multitude of military disciplines, gameplay will deliver warfare more realistic and intense then ever before, while an extensive multiplayer component will create battles on an incredible scale.

Features:
  • Freedom of Play - Operation Flashpoint 2 will give players the freedom to handle military crisis situations on their initiative. Unscripted missions will task players with real objectives, such as laying down covering fire, covering a friendly unit’s retreat or conducting short-range recon patrol. Armed with cutting edge military hardware, players will need to balance brute force with intelligent use of tactics. Once players have completed the campaign, a Mission Editor enables gamers to create their own single player and multiplayer missions.
  • The most realistic modern military conflict game - Operation Flashpoint 2 features unparalleled levels of realism and variety of military forces, equipment, weapons and tactics. Fully loaded weapons and individual ammunition types will be simulated with detailed ballistic physics, based upon individually-crafted mechanics. Players will command and control a wide variety of multi-component, multi-weapon vehicles, including tanks, infantry fighting vehicles, APCs, attack and utility helicopters. The character damage system authentically depicts the terrible wounds and injury from modern weapons to communicate the reality of combat.
  • Platoon-Based Combat - As an epic campaign weaves the narrative, players will fight as infantry soldiers in battle, drive tanks in armored assaults, pilot helicopters in air strikes, and infiltrate the enemy in covert special operations utilizing a wide variety of realistic military weapons from knives and rifles to machine guns, grenade launchers and laser designators for air strikes. In whichever role the player chooses, they will experience the fierce and brutal reality of warfare and the shock and awe of contemporary firepower unleashed on the arresting scale of modern combat.
  • Redefines the Size of Battle - Immense play areas of more than 135 square miles give players a multitude of tactical decisions on how to best accomplish missions. Densely packed with environment detail and objects, valleys, mountains, coastlines, towns, villages and industrial complexes all combine to deliver a rich and challenging tactical environment. The world is persistent, so that buildings destroyed in one campaign mission will be destroyed in the next.
  • Stylised Cinematography - Operation Flashpoint 2 will model the environment, objects and people in realistic detail, but its visual styling will embrace documentary techniques. The camera work through cut-scenes will be heavily influenced by television war reports that are often shot under extreme circumstances delivering a unique look with incorrect exposure, severe camera shake and loss of focus.
