In 1969, Mercedes Hall had been released from prison where she spent 20 years for a crime of hate against her. Abuse had never been a part of her life, until the night she was dragged out of her bed and thrown on the back of a truck and driven off into the night. She had lost valuable time from raising her children and losing them and her husband to another woman taking her place. When she stepped out of the prison walls, she was sure of what she was going to do with the rest of her life. She had encountered so many women with different reasons for spending most or all of their time behind prison walls with no justice for their cause. Mercedes decided to be their voice. She had known all too well the pain of injustice, and her stay in prison had shown her that injustice did not care what color you were or which class in society you were from. It only cared about the weak positions to violate.
