Even in South Central Texas, far from the gulf coast, autumn fog can be thick and blinding. Add wind currents, and it can swirl and dance it's way across the country side. Ursula Watkins was sitting on a stump near a dry creek bed watching just such a fog swirl and roll across the creek bed when she first heard the jingle of riding tack then witnessed three men on horseback come racing out of the fog as if the devil himself was giving chase.
