Description

Introducing a comprehensive and lively guide to children's books in translation, featuring a Foreword by Philip Pullman, articles on translated books by authors, translators, publishers and experts, and reviews of the books. At last, a guide to and review of children's books that have been translated into English - some of the most ground-breaking, popular and influential books on the market. Outside in features a foreward by Philip Pullman, a passionate supporter of translated books. It looks at the background to children's books in translation, from the classic to the contemporary, and the pleasures and insights they can offer to young readers, in articles by practitioners and experts, including Klaus Flugge, Sarah Adams, Nicholas Tucker, Gillian Lathey, Edgardo Zaghini and Patricia Billings. Outside In explores the rich tradition and culture of children's literature from a host of countries around the world, and is an invaluable resource, with its comprehensive review of children's books in translation currently available in the UK. The books have been selected and reviewed by a team of independent experts, and include picture books, fiction, non-fiction, graphic novels and dual language books. Covers and illustrations are also featured in the review, which is followed by further information sections, including biographical details on the writers and translators and a resource guide. As interest in translated books surges, Outside In is a timely and engaging guide for a broad range of readers, including parents, teachers, librarians, students, booksellers, authors, publishers and anyone interested in diverse and delightful children's books!
