Author Biography

A professional cartoonist and writer, Eric Shanower studied at the esteemed Joe Kubert School of Cartoon and Graphic Art before launching a career in comics. Having already lettered issues of Warp and Starslayer for First Comics and issues of The Barron Earth for DC, Shanower made his comics-art debut pencilling, inking and lettering a 16-page story called "Found and Lost" in DC's New Talent Showcase #13. Satisfying a lifelong love for L. Frank Baum's magical world of Oz, Shanower later began a series of Oz graphic novel that were published by First Comics and Dark Horse. The Enchanted Apples of Oz, The Ice King of Oz, The Blue Witch of Oz and others were released during a period of seven years and established Shanower as one of comics' most unique talents. This reputation was further enhanced when Image Comics being publishing Age of Bronze, his both retelling of the Trojan War that, in addition to the original mythologies recounted by Homer, relies heavily on details from the historical record. With Age of Bronze, Shanower took his place as one of graphic storytelling's most serious creators. His critically acclaimed work has netted him several Eisner Awards, including Best Writer/Artist in 2001 and 2003. Shanower's fascination with the Land of Oz continues to this day. Distinctively stylised illustrator Skottie Young has worked in both comics and animation for Warner
