"Ambitious, entirely original, acid colour-blocking"
4 stars"

This graphic novel hit all the right notes. I was NOT expecting to love it the way I did. Usually a fan of the space-operatic, the Sagas, the East of Wests, this was a bit of a departure for me and now I'm hooked. The tightly-written story blends a page-turning mystery with heart-aching nostalgia and gut-busting humour. Anyone who grew up in the suburbs will read this with a smirk, the characters are finely drawn and don't hold back, their tweenage insults are as graphic, thoughtless, and offensive as we all were not that long ago. The dynamic within the group of characters is familiar and engaging without drifting into cliche. You'll be left musing on this book long after you finish the last page, and you'll be checking the boards daily to get a peek at whatever's coming next.

Paper Girls not only is an amazing science fiction adventure story, but one that features young female leads as they deal with life and the stresses of the story. One of the best comics of the year and certainly one to keep an eye on!
