Description

Designed to accompany the TV series due for screening in Autumn 2003, this book brings to life four events that took place in Egypt over 2000 years ago, as recorded on wall paintings, etched in stone and written on papyrus. The book opens with The Battle of Megiddo, the heroic tale of Pharaoh Tuthmosis who overcame his enemies by conquering the city of Megiddo in ancient Palestine. Following on is "The Twins' Tale", the story of two unhappy sisters who, cast out from their mother's home, find themselves paying homage to a dead bull in order to avoid destitution. "The Tomb Robber's Tale" is a story of corruption in high places and thievery in deep vaults, as readers follow Amenpanufer's bid to plunder the tomb of the Pharaoh Sobekemsaf. In conclusion, "Murder in the Temple" plumbs the depths of villainy when two young sons are murdered by vengeful priests jealous of their father's power. The storylines are supplemented by box features on topics of special interest, such as how mummies were made, records were kept and tombs built.
