In a sealed sea chest off the coast of Newfoundland, the 1723 journal of pirate hunter William Lubber has been found! Pirateology tells the swashbuckling tale of Captain Lubber’s around-the-world voyage on the trail of the "verminous female pirate" Arabella Drummond, who always remained one tantalizing step out of Lubber’s reach. In his journal, Lubber explains all aspects of the piratical life so that others may be able to identify pirates and (he hopes) bring them to justice. Lavishly illustrated by three different artists, Pirateology explores pirate ships, weapons, dress, and customs, buccaneers, Barbary pirates, Chinese pirates, and much more.
Some of Pirateology’s special features include:
- a foil-embellished and jewel-encrusted cover with a special surprise feature!
- an envelope containing Lubber’s letter of marque and an aged treasure map with a torn piece missing
- a foldout map showing Lubber’s route and the locations of pirates around the globe
- two lengths of string for practicing sailor’s knots
- a packet of gold dust
- an envelope with a black spot -- given to condemned pirates
- a Chinese ransom note
- a booklet on "The Life and Strange, Surprising Adventures of the Notorious Pirate Arabella Drummond"
- a flap showing an interior cut-away of a pirate ship
- a finale of foil-stamped doubloons and pieces of eight, as well as choice jewels
