Description

Oilseeds occupy an important position in Indian economy and contribute about 6% of gross national product (GNP) and 9% of value of all the agricultural commodities. Further, oilseed production has assumed now more importance in the country, then ever before, because of the increasing gap between demand and supply. The groundnut (Arachis hypogaea L.) is also one of the major oilseed crops of the country and it plays a major role in bridging the vegetable oil deficit in the country. But production of this crop need to be enhanced to meet the national shortfall, as availability of edible oil in India is about 20 g/day/head against the balanced nutritional requirement of 30g/day/head. To meet the vegetable oil requirement of our burgeoning population at optimum level, we have to increase our production from present level of 20 million tonnes to about 50 million tonnes by 2020 AD. We should give greater emphasis on planting geometry and nitrogen management for proper and balanced nutrition to oilseed crops. The book cover an experimental study related to planting geometry and nitrogen management in groundnut.
