Divided into four parts, from "Body" through to "Voice, heart and mind", the book covers all the elements the reader needs to engage to train as an actor. There are voice warm-ups and bodywork through to interacting with space and creating characters. Drawing on influences from Japanese Butoh to African dance, Shakespearean verse and children's games, this book is aimed at actors who need to refresh their skills, those who would like to take part in or run workshops, and many who have no experience at all.

Author Biography:

Luke Dixon is a director, teacher and academic. He is internationally known for both productions of Shakespeare and site-specific work. He was run workshops and training programmes in Asia, Africa, North and South America, throughout Europe and in the UK. His doctoral thesis was in the performance of gender and he has published widely on that subject as well as on multilungual and multicultural performance. Luke is Artistic Director of Theatre Nomad and the International Workshop Festival. His Play-acting: A guide to theatre workshops was published by Methuen Drama in 2003.
