PlayStation Wireless Stereo Headset 2.0 reviews

This is possibly one of the best sets of headphones I've had the pleasure of owning.

The pro:

1. Wireless really works, and at a decent range. My PS4 sits about 5m away in a cabinet, and this thing works through that no problem.
2. I was doubtful about the VSS, but it does a really good job; it's not a “real” surround system but you'll be hard pressed to notice. Playing Destiny, you'll hear dudes behind you, etc.
3. Customisable settings (e.g., enhanced bass) are easy to apply through the app on your console.
4. The 3.5mm cable makes this great for things like Vita, or smartphones.
5. The mic “just works” – no boom, and easy-acess buttons for mute so you can disable it.
6. On-screen dash in PS3 and PS4 lets you know when it's on, on mute, etc.
7. Battery lasts an age – longer than a charge on the PS4 controller :)
8. Some games come with custom sound stages (e.g., Destiny) that make them sound better.
9. It's very comfortable to wear for long periods of time.
10. Very complete controls on the device – you can split the mix for chat audio and game audio and such with buttons on the unit. Digital dash on PS3/4 will show you what you're doing.

Cons-

1. The bass range isn't brilliant; I find that I use the bass enhance custom setting to fix this, but be warned that these are not bass-boost headphones.
2. They are not small; if you want to take this as portable headphones, they do not transform into the size of a matchbox.

Highly recommended – I bought myself a second pair to keep at work as the VSS works under Windows and they're really good for music, Lync/Skype chats, and so on.

I had the PX4's, sold them in a week. Crap. These Sony Gold Wireless headsets are fantastic. TRUE WIRELESS. The cups sit better on the ears, it's lightweight. I hope Mighty Apre reduce the price on here though. A little too expensive.

I like that these are light weight and foldable along with the pouch it comes with :) It's really comfortable and sits perfectly on my head, they ear muffs are big enough for me too. I've had a couple of expensive headsets in the past and these by far are looking to be the best headset I've played with. Sound, Mic and Design are awesome too. Can't wait to have my plates custom made!

Wow, in one word, it's about time someone has made a headset that works on ps3 and ps4, just plug and play no hassle of optical cables, great sound and chat features, I have had a few headsets from turtle beach, tritton and astro and these have the same quality of 7.1 surround and some of the more expensive sets, value for money! Don't pass these up, they are surely the best A+++

Awesome headset, sounds great swapped over to this from my turtle beach px5s as they didnt work properly on my ps4 expected a huge downgrade but I was wrong!

I too was dubious at the ‘official’ headset for the PS4, traditionally these sorts of items are average at best – but not in this case! Great headset, easy to set up and use, on par with $300+ sets for sure. Highly recommended for any keen PS4 gamer – awesome 7.1 surround, good mic and decent battery life.

This headset is extremely comfy, I can game for hours in it, the mic isn't the best quality but that's only an issue if you are making YouTube videos. Other players can easily hear you and the mic is built in, so you have no mic in front of your face

Good headphones but definitely not comfortable for longer periods, ears start to hurt after a while and battery life is resonable too

Sound quality: 10/10 Directional audio: 7/10 (Horizontal 360 plane is perfect. Vertical is limited.) Comfort: 9/10 Reliability: 10/10 (they stay put, they stay connected, they respond fast to inputs.) Battery life: 9/10 (over 5 continuous hours of Far Cry 4 from full charge) Charge speed: 10/10 (30 mins yields several hours) Ease of use: 8/10 (USB only plugs. Swapping over the USB charge cable and bluetooth receiver is the only design flaw. They should be the same object.) My recommendation: If you have a PS4, either buy this headset or install 7.1 Dolby surround.

Super-impressed with these. For the money, I can't fault them. Excellent sound quality. Really comfortable. Playing Destiny with the 7.1 surround on is amazing! Really happy with my purchase!

The sound quality was horrible. The wireless didn't work half the time, it kept cutting out. Basically don't get this product.

Good sound. But rubbish quality in terms on how its made. Massive fault on the hinges where it folds. Other people have same issue. U ring Sony they blame you. For how its treated poor excuse.

The 7.1 sound is amazing and they're pretty comfortable, would be good for single player gaming but if you're gaming with friends online I wouldn't recommend this. The mic is in a bad spot, isn't adjustable and picks up sound poorly. After playing around with the settings I ended up just using a wired Wii U headset I got on clearance.

I bought the first Sony 7.1 Wireless Headset 3 years ago which has a better mic and the same sound quality as the 2.0, only downside is they look dorky. Still using the older model, gave away the 2.0. Bummed about getting burned for trying to upgrade.

I have the PS3 headset and it is great. This one for the PS4 is just as good. Having the sound/chat mixer on the side of the headset is my only negative. My other little niggle is that there is absolutely no technical reason why Sony couldn't have made the PS3 headset work on the PS4. Starts getting a little expensive!!!

The sound is all right but the headset is extremely brittle, after just a month or so cracks started appearing and after half a year the entire headband was covered in duct tape just to keep it together, and I always take very good care of my stuff. Battery life is also very short.

Brought this for my partner who enjoys it a lot, I was close to buying the “Platinum” but this gold one has exceeded expectations in terms of sound quality. Deff recommend!

I got this primarily for using with the computer and music devices, but it works great with the PS4. It's strudy and doesn't feel cheap. It fits really well around the ears and is really comfortable. Defintely a lot more secure than some other products on the market. Cancels out sound decently. Holds the charge for ages and doesn't seem to take too long to get back up to full.

I personally think it could be louder, but my hearing ain't great to begin with. I haven't needed it yet, but I think a “need to charge” light on the headset would be a good feature. I can also see where size might be an issue for using on the go, but you can't have it all with these products.

I've used a lot of head sets, some cheap, and some a little pricey brand name type ones, this is the best thus far. Recommend for both gaming and music.

I've given this headset a 5 star because it is a really good affordable headset and THE BEST headset I've owned. Sound quality, microphone and surround sound is very good on this headset, only flaw I find are the buttons. When u press a button on this headset it beeps for some odd reason, and the beep is so loud my friends and teammates can hear it through game chat. It is also confusing when trying to balance the sound out for game chat and game audio (figured it out at the end after fiddling with it). Other than that excellent.

I needed a headset, not only for the PS4, but one that could be used in a pinch for video chat. My budget was on the low-side so I took a good look at this headset.

My favourite feature is the ‘sidetone’ feedback – the headset will feed back the microphone which makes it sound less like I'm talking into a black hole, but also has a side benefit of being able to hear other sounds around me – handy to keep an ear out for grizzling kids in a late night gaming session.

However, I am experiencing a little bit of fatigue when wearing them for many hours as they are quite tight on my head. I read up about that before purchase so I was prepared and overall is only a minor slight on an otherwise great purchase.

Good product. Brought it on Mightyape, a day later at Noel Leeming for $13 DOLLARS CHEAPER.

Good price for sound quality. Great no cords during use. Easy to charge and very easy to use with PS4 App from Playstation store. Volume button and base boost buttons easy to reach. Would recommend.

Battery life is great for me, sound is wonderful and the buttons around the headset are solid and tactile. The overall build quality is alright, although if you are the rough-type it will break (similar design and feel to the 1st Generation Beats Studio Headphones). The cushioning is nice although a bit tight for my ears but i guess that will soften over time. I believe those with wider heads might struggle. The addition of the 3.35mm jack allows you to use it with your mobile or computer which is great, so you can use it as regular pair of headphones.

A great ps4 headset and I have also used it on my pc Would buy again great sound and clear mic.

I ordered this item online and had it in my hands (pickup) in 20 minutes. You just can't get better service than that, perfect!

Just perfect.

This is possibly one of the best headsets that I have owned. They are super comfortable and even though there is a little weight behind them you do not notice them and I do not end up with a sore neck, ears, or head. Also, you get a good deal of cables that come with the headset that is totally great and to my surprise a nice bag to put it in. Connecting to the PS4 was a breeze.

My only draw back with the headset is that it doesn't have Bluetooth, if it did it would be fantastic as then I could pair it with my iPhone.

The 7.1 sound is amazing nice fit long battery life highly recommend

Great headset. Very comfortable and fits nicely on head. Also sounds great.

I loved this headset the moment I got them. Sound and microphone is amazing considering the price and the battery life is just as good. BUT. I found that the hinges, that allow you to fold the head set, broke easily and I have resorted to cellotaping them back on. Keep this in mind when buying as they are quite fragile.

The most most important part of a pair of gaming headphones to me is comfort. These headphones are not very comfortable for long gaming sessions and start to become uncomfortable and hot around the ears. The battery life is also a little small if you plan on having them on all day. Once the battery is dead you can connect the headphones with a cable so they aren't unusable. Overall a decent pair of headphones, very budget. Good but not great.

Recomend instead: Kingston HyperX Cloud Gaming Headset

Exactly what I have been looking for in a pair of gaming headphones! Quality sound and experience all in one!

Great sound but get a bit uncomfortable after wearing for a while. Go flat fast.

I have owned this headset for a year now, and it has been one of the best things I have ever bought to compliment a console device.

Pros – An amazing 7.1 surround sound experience for the price point, comfortable with a brilliant mic for in game chat. Plus the app integration into the PS4 is amazing, and even a year later all major PS4 games coming out have updated sound profiles. Great for games like Bloodborne were u want to hear the slightest sounds in the background. High quality wireless which works cleanly even up till a room or so away which is great for when your moving around the house. And a strong battery that lasts hour hours, Found that the battery is long lasting with almost 6 plus hours, but is super easy to charge as it can charge on the PS4 on sleep mode overnight and also it can be plugged into phone charges.

Cons – However, keep your receipts! These headsets are very very weak and the plastic will slowly fall apart. Luckily I was able to get my headset replaced, but at no point was I rough with it. Also, it does not have any real bass or pitch so for any audiophile this headset may be a bit disappointing.

Conclusion – Even with durability issues I would definitely repurchase this headset again and I am hoping Sony brings out an updated pair in the future.

Just wish battery life was a little longer and you could switch audio settings wirelessly rather than having to plug it in.

Also think games with preset settings should just automatically switch it to it rather than having to go into the companion app.

I've had quite a few headphones in the past but these are definitively the best I've ever owned. They are very comfortable and you can adjust them quite a bit. Best thing about them is that they are compatible with everything as far as i am aware.

I have currently used them with my PS4, laptop, Phone, PS4 controller.

Very happy with them.

Great headphones – very easy to set up and use

The sound is good but the PS4 setup is not as straight forward as one would hope and also the wireless connector needs to use an USB plug and the PS4 has only 2 :(

Good upgrade from v1 version. Comfortable to wear for long periods of time. Only downside would be I have to mute the mic feed to myself (by holding down mute) to stop high pitch whine that happens sometimes.

I wanted something wireless to let me move freely and not get caught up in even more cables. This thing is pretty wicked. Sound is great, microphone appears to be built into the ear pieces rather than an obvious one, but works great. USB charger cord is too short for wear as you play, but that's the only glaring problem with an otherwise great purchase. Will likely buy another one for my other console later.

thanks mighty ape 20hrs after a ordered these they are on ears and they are brilliant. do everything promised. are comfortable. are the perfect replacement for my old wireless headset that didn't transfer over to my PS4.

After a while of wearing them they actually become painful.

The best ones i've had

I've had this headset for 2 months now and it does the job well. The sound quality is clear and fairly directional and the built in mic is clear and convenient. Adjusting the game and chat volume mix can be a bit of trial and error as there isn't anything with the headset that tells you what half the buttons do, but you'll figure it out. Battery life isn't too bad and neither is the charge time. It is also comfortable to wear for longer gaming sessions. Overall a solid buy.

I'm not an audiophile so I can't speak to the nitty gritty but these tick every box. They're comfy, easy to set up, and easy to plug and play. They're also a breeze to set up on Windows so that is a great bonus.

Probably the best feature is the custom EQs – Sony provide a library of EQ settings tailored to popular games, made by the developers with the exact hardware of the headsets in mind. In the early days of Bloodborne it saved my life more times than I can count – being able to hear footsteps and which direction they were coming from.

I don't know if the pure audio quality is worth the pricetag but considering all the other features and general experience it's a great buy.

Fantastic price for a great product, very comfortable on the ears. The buttons are perhaps not ideally located to use without looking at them.

Definitely worth buying, especially for price, can be used universally, and keeps up communication very well during gameplay a solid buy for anyone wanting to start into chat gaming!

I have owned several headsets that didnt fit quite right on my oversized skull, and was a little concerned about if these would fit.Thankfully they are very comfortable, and sound fantastic, with no underlying hum or static even when turned all the way up.Stop searching and looking at reviews for hedsets and buy this one

This head set is super comfy, the mic is great and the noise reduction is super effective. The only thing that I wish was a little better is the battery life which could be a little longer.

Good headset for what I payed, beats other more expensive ones ive owned

Bought a pair of these a few months back. Although the bass cant match my home theater system, you cant go past these for playing online. The sound quality is great and the mic is crystal clear. The duration between charges is a real plus too! at least double the controllers battery time.

For the price vs the quality of these, compared to anything else ive tried. You'd be silly to go past them!

AWESOME pair of headsets to get for your PS3 (If you don't have a PS4 like myself hehe). Totally love that now I can listen to music without having the audio cable plugged behind the TV like I have been doing with all my other audio headsets hehe. The only setback I have with it, is the mic. I mean it's good since I tested it out after having it delivered to me, indeed you need to turn down the chat volume in order to hear yourself right (Although probably my PS3 needs updating or I might need to purchase something from the PS store hehehe). But other than that I totally love it, so it's indeed worth getting :D

Bought for my PS4. Arrived when MA said they would … well done, MA, as usual! Easy to setup, easy to download app to customise your sound experience and very comfortable to wear. A really great product that I would highly recommend for not only playing/commu­nicating online but also adding a new dimension to your gaming. For instance, when playing Dragon Age:Inquisition can now detect even very faint sounds and it is almost like playing a different, better, game (yes, bold claim because I know just how good DA:I is!). Finally, for the height of laziness, you can even talk to your PS4 using your headset and tell it to do stuff instead of using the controller … gimmicky but I find I use it all the time!

Sounds great using the presets on the headset companion app. All other features including surround sound and mic are great

Very nice wireless headset for the PS4, easy to use and has a long battery life.

These are excellent headphones. Great bang for buck. I don'y even own a PS4 yet, but loved the original model PS3 7.1 Virtual Surround Sound headphones and needed a replacement pair after three years of constant, excellent performance left them starting to snap, crackle and pop. The PS4 Gold model is an improvement in almost every way.

Needless to say I am more than happy with both Sony and Mighty Ape, the latter of which continues to have a flawless record of swift, hassle-free service with me.

For the price of these, these are definitely the best headset you can get.

Good quality headphones at a decent price, easy to set uo and use

This is a really great headset for all ur gaming needs. Soft cushion for your ears, and very good noise cancelling acoustics. It doesn't have any static because it uses a really portable USB dongle that u can basically plug/unplug into any of your other devices easily. Designed for the PS4. I'd love to see someone use this with the Silent Hill: PD!

This is a great headset for the PS4. Easy plug-and-play.

They are light and comfortable to wear and the battery last for hours. There is a good microphone built-in and I have never had any issues with the sound quality in chats.

Unfortunately the second pair I purchased have a defect, so have dropped from 5 stars to 4 stars.

Very cool good fit excellent sound

The headset itself is very good, light and comfortable but the bluetooth usb is incredibly fragile. I had had it for two days when I accidentally knocked a desk ornament into it while I had it plugged into my laptop. Never worked again. So now I cant use the headset for PS3 and can only use it on PS4 and PC while wired.

Amazing sounding headphones, comfortable for long periods. Highly recommended.

Ordered on Friday, delivered by Saturday. Product sounds amazing and is really comfortable to wear without feeling annoying after 3–4hrs. For the price every gamer should have one.

Sounds good. Looks good. Feel good and are great value for money. Works with pc but not phone Bluetooth. Does come with jack for phone tho. I just worry about the plastic hinges. Is that a reason to give only 4 starts- Are folding headphones a bit of a gimmick

After a week I totally recommend the Sony PS4 7.1 wireless headphones. Awesome sound AND price. But the integration is %100 as its a ‘device’ on the system. So onscreen prompt pop-ups just like the dual shock, appear for the headphones if you make changes to settings, chat etc.. or if they need charging. Theres also the app with downloadable presets into the headphones.

If you need some surround sound cans for the PS4 this is them imo

Seriously easy to set up. The headset is comfortable to wear and provides all that you need to enhance the gaming experience.

Very nice headphones. Super comfortable for long gaming/movie experiences. They work well with ps4 which tells you of charge levels and settings etc.

I'm not an super analystic audiophile, and although I haven't tested them extensively against my similarly priced Sennheisers on an audio level, what I do love about these is they work on all my gaming devices and are simply plug and use.
